〜ABOUT FARMER〜

当店でもお馴染みになってきたアカシアヒルズ。

生産者レオンの祖父母は、1900年頃にギリシャからタンザニアに来た移民で、コーヒー生産を生業とした。レオンはその三代目にあたる。

先代は農園でコーヒーを栽培していたが、その土地は標高が低く高品質のコーヒーを生産するには不向きであった為、レオンは2000年代にスペシャルティコーヒーという概念を知り、より高品質のコーヒーを生産できる土地を探し始めた。

新たな農園の土地をオルディアニに決めたのには二つ理由がある。一つ目はビジネスパートナーとも言えるマークが飲んだタンザニアのコーヒーの中で、一番美味しいと思ったのがオルディアニのコーヒーだったこと。二つ目は、ある研究者がオルディアニの土壌はコーヒーの栽培に最適だと言っているのを耳にしたことだ。 

 コーヒー生産に関わる人が幸せになり、その周りの人も幸せになる。そんな理想的なビジネスを実践できる経営者が一人存在することで、オルディアニという地域全体が変わっていく。これからサステナビリティが最大の主題となるスペシャルティコーヒー業界にとって、レオンの実践はとても貴重な教材となるだろう。

Acacia Hills has become a familiar sight in our store.

Leon's grandparents, the producer, were immigrants who came to Tanzania from Greece around 1900 and made their living from coffee production. Leon is the third generation.

His predecessors grew coffee on farms, but the land was at a low altitude and unsuitable for producing high-quality coffee, so Leon learned about the concept of specialty coffee in the 2000s and began searching for land that could produce higher quality coffee.

There are two reasons why he decided on Oldiani for his new farm. The first is that Mark, who can be considered his business partner, thought that Oldiani coffee was the most delicious of all the Tanzanian coffees he had tasted. The second is that he heard a researcher say that Oldiani's soil is ideal for growing coffee.

People involved in coffee production will be happy, and the people around them will be happy. The presence of a manager who can practice such an ideal business will change the entire region of Oldiani. Leon's practices will be a valuable teaching material for the specialty coffee industry, where sustainability will become a major issue in the future.

タンザニアは広大な大自然で知られる東アフリカの国です。「ビッグ 5」と呼ばれる 5 種類の動物（ゾウ、ライオン、ヒョウ、バッファロー、サイ）が生息するサファリのメッカとして知られるセレンゲティ国立公園や、アフリカ最高峰を擁するキリマンジャロ国立公園などで知られています。沖合には、アラブの影響を受けたザンジバルの熱帯の島々が浮かんでいます。ザンジバル諸島には、サメやサンゴ礁で知られる海洋公園を擁するマフィア島があります。

Offshore lie the Arab-influenced tropical islands of Zanzibar, including Mafia Island, home to a marine park known for its sharks and coral reefs.
